Caper Gradient Trick

This tutorial is NOT to be scripted or made into a "Quick Guide" unless it is for your own personal use.

To do this tutorial you will need a working knowledge of PSP. If you are new to PSP, or have a problem doing this tutorial, you can find me at Raven's PSP Forum, be happy to help you out.

Click here to download my Caper Gradient
Unzip the file and extract to your PSP 8 gradients folder.

This is an easy tutorial, I've included many screen shots to try to show each step in detail

Step 1

Start with an image 500 X 500 pixels.

Step 2

Open your Materials Palette and find the "mqc Caper" gradient.
For "Style" click on Linear.
Set the "Repeats" to 10.
Set the Angle to 90.

Click OK.
Flood Fill your background.

Step 3

Go to Effects>Distortion Effects>Ripple.
Use these settings.

Repeat the Ripple Effect

Repeat the Ripple Effect once more.

Step 4

Go to Effects>Distortion Effects>Polar Coordinates
Check Polar to rectangle

Step 5

Go to Adjust>Blur>Motion Blur
Set it like this

 Repeat the Motion Blur

Repeat the Motion Blur once more.

Step 6

Go to Effects>Edge Effects>Find Vertical

Step 7

Go to Layers>Duplicate.
Go to Image>Rotate>Free Rotate.
Make sure "All Layers" is NOT Checked

Step 8

Open your Layer Palette, click the arrow next to Normal on Copy of Raster 1.
Set the Layer Blend Mode to Lighten.

That's it, you're done.:)

I thought this would make an interesting background. Try it with different Layer Blend Modes and different gradients. You can get a variety of looks.
